Snow covers Split and the Dalmatian islands
It was snowing in Split and the Dalmatian islands this morning (Wed).
It snows in Split only once every few years as the city’s Mediterranean climate makes snow there quite rare.
A strong northerly wind has intensified the cold. The temperature was around 0 degrees Celsius early in the morning. Snow has caused traffic chaos in the city because local drivers are not used to six centimetres of the white stuff.
There are rumors snow could even endanger the most-important Croatian football derby on Sunday, when Hajduk Split will host Dinamo Zagreb.
The photo above shows Hajduk Split coach Ante Mise cleaning his snow-covered car in front of his home this morning.
